Inhalation Sedation
For patients who are particularly afraid of the dentist, treatment combined with inhalation sedation is recommended. Immediately before the procedure, the patient is administered laughing gas (a mixture of medical oxygen and nitrous oxide) through a special mask. This gas immediately reduces anxiety and tension, inducing a state of complete relaxation. The gas can be safely used on children and is often an effective way to combat dental phobia.
Another advantage of inhalation sedation is the change in patients’ attitudes toward treatment that we’ve observed. Many of them, after just a few visits, forgo the gas and lose their fear of the dentist.
