The Wand anesthesia
For anesthesia in our clinic, we often use an innovative method based on the Wand system. These modern, computer-controlled systems allow for painless administration of dental anesthesia. The system consists of a small computer and a special tip that resembles a pen. The anesthesia itself is administered manually – the doctor places the tip against the patient’s gum and, under the control of a microprocessor, administers the anesthetic.
Anesthesia with The Wand takes approximately 3 minutes, depending on the location and technique of anesthesia, and immediately after application, the tissues are anesthetized, and the procedure can begin.
With traditional techniques, the waiting time for the anesthetic to take effect after the injection is approximately 10-15 minutes.
The Wand’s application tips look almost like a pen, with a shorter or longer needle at the end. A special technique for guiding the tip through the tissues ensures that the patient doesn’t feel its presence in the gum. This is because anesthetic fluid is continuously injected into the tissues as the needle is inserted. The fluid creates a protective layer on the tip of the needle—a so-called anemic sheath. This means that the anesthetic reaches the tissues first, and only then does the needle approach the already anesthetized tissues. As a result, the needle moves through the already anesthetized tissues, so the patient doesn’t feel its presence.
